about the Almostronauts
We’re a small creative agency helping local businesses, nonprofits, and interesting projects take off.
Our two completely opposite-feeling specializations are: whimsical and playful marketing that engages people's minds, and legal compliance and conformance with standards that often fall off the radar!
Our Team
Marleen
... creative director and OG Almostronaut. She will talk about wrapping your vehicle, and going to networking opportunities!
Devyn
... incredible illustrator. Devyn can draw anything in any style, and has the artistic talent of an entire animation studio condensed into a single human.
Jeff
... the out-of-the-box 3D guy: 3D modeling, motion graphics, video editing, and sundry other things we're not even thinking of right now! Also videography and 3D printing (Vancouver Island only).
who we love to work with...
To set the record straight: we can absolutely do serious marketing. But in our hearts, we love playful marketing. We will, of course, assess first which direction is right for your business goals and your target market.... but if there is room in your business to get whimsical, we will be extremely happy to help with that.
... and who loves to work with us
Are you overwhelmed with the ins and outs of managing your website, your marketing isn't quite getting the traction you were hoping? If you'd like to focus on your core business and leave your marketing to somebody you trust, we can get you there. Marleen will still occasionally approach you with ideas, for approvals, with news that require your attention, or to get you to do in-person networking... that comes with the job!
where we are
Devyn lives in Minnesota, and Marleen and Jeff in Sooke. Shoutout to our local clients on beautiful Vancouver Island! <3
But we have clients everywhere - in the USA, in Australia, and in Europe. (Ja, wir sprechen deutsch!) So if you have any questions regarding GDPR and DSGVO, yes, we can help you there.
Most of our clients come to us through referrals (thank you so much!) and others through website search-and-rescue projects... (Is your website giving you trouble?)
Our Approach to Marketing
Some people see marketing as the practice to manipulate somebody into buying something they don't necessarily need or want. We don't like that, and we don't want to do that.
Marleen sees marketing this way:
One one side there is a thing (product/service/cause...) and on the other side there is a person who would really love that thing. Between the two are any number of obstacles: the person has to know that the thing exists, has to know where to get more information, has to understand that information, has to agree with it, has two easily find how to purchase or support the thing, and has to find it reasonably priced. The purpose of marketing is to find and remove those obstacles.
We care about ethical marketing practices (and with the advent of AI, there is a while new can of worms to consider). You can read more about these topics on our blog.
sounds good?
Please wander, and have a look around! And when you're ready, we would love to hear from you.
Testimonials
Marleen took the time to understand my business and who I am and then designed the perfect logo for my small business. She also set it up in different colors and configurations so that I could use it in various ways, which was extremely helpful. Thanks so much Marleen and crew!

such as:
YYJ Plumbers - Ackinclose & Son
Ackinclose & Son came to us for a new website, and we upgraded their van & their brand to bring them more commercial business!
fun projects & campaigns
because why not:
Sooke's Hidden Treasures
This was a campaign organized by the Sooke Chamber of Commerce to promote local businesses. We were initially hired to create a postcard for a mailout, and ended up doing a lot more!

We respectfully express our gratitude and appreciation to live and create on the unceded traditional territory of the T’Sou-ke First Nation - HÍSW̱KE - as well as in Apple Valley, located on the traditional, ancestral, and contemporary lands of the Mdewakanton Dakota people, part of the Oceti Sakowin (Seven Council Fires) - Pidámaya, and along the length of the Mississippi River, where Indigenous peoples have lived and cared for these lands since time immemorial. We strive to uphold our mutual values of storytelling and environmental stewardship.
